Sound Walk / Field Recording Workshops
Sound walk / field recording workshops take the form of a guided walk around Bryher, collecting sounds with a digital recorder and a combination of stereo microphones, shotgun microphone, contact microphones or hydrophones.
Recordings are then edited and arranged to create a soundscape composition that participants can take away.
Workshops last around four hours, consisting of two hours recording and two hours editing and composing.
No experience is necessary, suitable clothing and footwear should be worn.
Workshops can occasionally be weather dependent.
We use Sound Devices Mix Pre 6 portable recorder, Oktava MK-012 omni matched pair, Sennheiser MKH-416 microphones and contact microphones and hydrophones by Jez Riley French.

Electronic Music and Recording Workshops
Electronic music and recording workshops aim to create a piece of music using any combination of synthesisers, samplers, electric guitar or bass guitar, percussion or any other sound generating object.
Workshops can explore electronic music, musique concréte, analogue, digital and hybrid modular synthesis, samplers, sequencers, microphone recording techniques for voice and various instruments, digital or analogue recording formats, either DAW / laptop recording with Logic Pro X or cassette multitrack recording.
Our studio has a selection of microphones which include Neumann TLM 49, AKG C414 XLS matched pair, Oktava MK-012 matched pair, Shure SM57 and AKG D112. Mixing and monitoring with a Soundcraft analog desk and Genelec 8030 monitors. Various effects and amplifiers are also to hand.
If you are interested in a workshop or are looking to record music on Scilly do get in touch. Our studio is small, well suited to solo musicians and duos. Access to larger spaces can be arranged if required.
Music recording services, studio hire, analogue to digital audio transfer or on-going recording tuition are also available.
